Coral Expeditions 1
(formerly Coral Princess)
Coral Expeditions I is a 35m twin-hulled catamaran, accommodating a maximum of 46 guests. Australian flagged, registered and staffed, the ship was purpose-built for expedition cruising. The ship’s forward lounge is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery in air-conditioned comfort, and features a comprehensive reference library and plasma screens. The Sun Deck at the rear with a new bar outdoor area added in 2016 is another popular place to relax and take in the panoramic views.
Coral Expeditions I operates an open bridge policy, allowing you to follow your progression on the ship’s charts and chat with the Captain. Coral Expeditions I is fitted with modern safety and navigation equipment, and wireless internet facilities.
The “Explorer” is a specially designed aluminium excursion vessel used for most excursions. Accommodating all passengers at one time, “Explorer” is conveniently equipped with an awning and toilet. Featuring high horsepower engines, “Explorer” is used for landings and for extensive exploration of rivers and tributaries. Boarding is directly from the ship’s main deck, where a hydraulic platform gently lowers you into the water.
Coral Expeditions I also carries 2x inflatable landing craft (Zodiacs). Designed for expedition work, these large and heavy-duty inflatables are extremely safe. The flat bottom design permits these crafts to land directly onto the beaches. Expect nonetheless to wade through shallow water to reach the shore.

The Traditional Owners of the Kimberley and their representatives have now implemented a permit/fee for guests accessing traditional lands when cruising the Kimberley region. This fee applies to all ships operating in the Kimberley and is aimed at financing a sustainable cultural tourism management plan for the area. The cost of the permit to access these regions in 2019 is $105 per person. This fee will be added to all bookings once it is confirmed.
Coral Expeditions I will not be operating in the Kimberley in 2020

What is the Xplorer and how does it work?
Answer: Coral Expeditions I is equipped with an 'Xplorer' (or 'Explorer') - a unique, specially designed aluminium excursion vessel used for the majority of our excursions. This vessel has high horsepower engines and will accommodate all passengers at one time.
The 'Xplorer' will be used for landings and for extensive exploration of rivers and tributaries. For your added convenience and comfort, the 'Xplorer' is equipped with an awning and toilet. These excursion vessels sit on a hydraulic lift at the rear of the ship (Main Deck onboard Coral Discoverer and Deck C onboard Coral Expeditions I).
Following boarding, the unique hydraulic lift gently lowers the excursion vessel into the water, negating the need to clamber aboard unstable tenders.
