Day 1: Welcome to Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Base Tour & Sunset

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm).

This afternoon travel around the base of Uluru with a local Driver Guide. Learn about the native flora, fauna and intriguing cultural traditions of traditional owners, the Anangu, and discover an array of fascinating sacred sites. Join your Driver Guide for a walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole. Explore a number of caves and view Aboriginal rock paintings as your Guide interprets their meaning. Later visit Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where there is time to purchase some locally made Aboriginal art and learn more about the Western Desert region. Travel to the sunset viewing area to enjoy sparkling wine and nibbles and watch the effect of the setting sun on the colour of Uluru.

Day 2: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Kings Canyon

Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Later, travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. This afternoon travel to Kings Canyon.

Day 3: Kings Canyon – Farewell from Alice Springs

This morning join your Driver Guide for the rocky climb to the canyon rim for superb views of Watarrka National Park (for those with a good level of fitness). Alternatively explore the canyon creek bed, for an easier, shady walk. Travel through the desert to Alice Springs, where your short break concludes.

As this Short Break concludes after 7.00pm, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for the night.

Fitness requirement

Low to moderate level of fitness required:

  • Uluru: Low level of fitness required. Approximately 1 hour gentle walk on flat ground.
  • Kata Tjuta: Moderate level of fitness required. Walking on uneven surface required to complete Walpa Gorge walk, however, guests can return to the coach at any time if needed.
  • Kings Canyon: Good level of fitness required for three hour walk around the canyon’s rim. Or low to moderate level of fitness required for the canyon floor walk.

he Outback Pioneer Hotel and Lodge provides comfortable, clean hostel beds for the traveller who is simply looking for somewhere to rest between their outback adventures.  Two styles of accommodation are available including twenty bed single sex dormitories and four bed mixed-sex dormitories; both have shared bathroom facilities.

Budget - Kings Canyon Resort, Standard Rooms

Kings Canyon Hotel is the oasis in the outback for those who would rather explore the area from a comfortable base. Retreat to the resort after an active day of hiking through the rugged terrain of the Watarrka National Park.

Standard - Desert Gardens Hotel
